Scalp micropigmentation for women, explained
SMP is not just for shaved heads. Here is how it helps women with thinning hair look fuller.
When most people hear scalp micropigmentation, they picture a man with a shaved head. For women, SMP works differently, and it can make a big difference with thinning hair.
What SMP does for women
Thinning hair shows because you can see the scalp through it. SMP places thousands of tiny dots of pigment on the scalp that match your hair color. That reduces the contrast between your scalp and your hair, so your part and crown look fuller. Your hair stays long. The pigment sits underneath it.
Who it can help
- A widening part
- Thinning at the crown
- Diffuse thinning all over
- Scars from surgery or a hair transplant
- Alopecia patches
What it is not
SMP does not grow hair. It changes how thinning looks. Many women pair it with treatments from their doctor, and it can be a good option when other treatments have not been enough.
How the process works
It usually takes a few sessions spaced apart so the pigment can build gradually. The color is matched to your hair and skin tone. After healing, there is no daily routine. You wash and style your hair as usual.
